Spring cleaning is formerly known to take place in the “springtime,” but I can’t start that late. I start cleaning stuff out as soon as the holiday decor makes its presence.

As the boxes come down, my OCD goes into overdrive.

I can’t bear to think of all the decorations that will be spread throughout our home, knowing that shortly after there will be a pile of “gifts” that will need new homes as well.

I love the holidays, but my organizing starts in December and continues for the next few months.

We can all try to avoid the abundance of gift giving, but unfortunately it still makes its way through the cracks to us!!

Instead of getting “random items” we try to consciously ask for household items we are short on or need replacing.

For example, I asked for trivets because somehow mine grew legs and disappeared. And it was great! I got something I actually needed for the home, and at a cheap enough cost for the gift giver! I also avoided having to find “homes” for items in my house that I didn’t actually need.

1.Seasonal Items to be spring cleaned

A thought about spring cleaning at the holidays: if you don’t unpack a holiday decoration, because it is “too much to deal with” than take a second here.
If you didn’t display the item this year, you are more than likely not going to display it in the future! Please downsize here so you don’t have to stare at it the following year.

Okay onto our unique spots to spring clean this year. This a short list of areas in my home that needed attention, but I truly didn’t think about them until they got really bad!
They didn’t make it to the springtime because as soon as the holidays were over and the rooms were feeling a little bare, I embraced it. It didn’t take me long to want to fill in the empty spots, but instead I was like “what can I get ride of next?”

2. The Refrigerator

I am not referring to the inside of the refrigerator, but instead the outside. I usually go through the inside of it once a week as I make my grocery lists, but the outside gets pretty crowded.
If you are a mom, you definitely know the feeling. I have ten million school drawing, invites to parties and appointment reminders all over the front.
I have to declutter them!
My end goal is to see the stainless steel finish on the front, but if I can see 50%, I am happy.

3. The coat closet

The closet that is only 20 inches across and can hold a lot! This closet is unfortunately mine, in our household. It holds my jackets and random items, I have nowhere else to put.
This is the best time to clean out “my coats,” if I didn’t wear a certain one than it needs to go. The linen closet also comes in a close second to this one.

4. Paperwork/Office Space

Paperwork is always never ending. I usually have piles every week that I sort through,
but then they get thrown into BIGGER PILES in my office,
which end up being a full project to tackle at the end of the year.

5. My car

If you are a mom then you know the feeling. You look in your rear view mirror and it looks like the place exploded.

I try to make an effort everyday after work to remove everything from the “mom taxi” but it doesn’t happen!
When I actually make the effort to vacuum and wipe down the interior is when I find all the lost toys.

I hope these 5 extra ideas for spring cleaning gives you inspiration, to organize unique areas in your home. I am always trying to stay organized, but I do know there are also spots in my house that still need attention!

Good luck cleaning this season!!
